If I could spread my Arms

and embrace the Land:

the Hills- Fields- Mountains-

Forests both small and grand-

I would then hold

a Treasure unknown

by so many- though-

It has always- been.

It’s both difficult and easy to

imagine the Sky as something endless.

It is more difficult to imagine

everything under the Sky,

though both sky and the realm below it

have always been,

for every thing living and imagining,

between the two.

Too often I find myself

lost in what was and what could be.

It’s a dangerous place to linger-

the land of Memory.

Turned our backs on the

fruit of the land.

Forgotten labor,

turning to markets instead.

Forgotten to rejoice with rainfall

and sunlight falling on the earth.

Forgotten the cycle of everything,

even though it is the cycle of our lives.

My friend lies in a land of romance-

her head filled with aspirations

rose-colored, spring water, green grass, castles.

I remain on the edge

of Recovery and Heartbreak.

Black crags, pools of ink,

breath is steam before me.

I see the horizon.

I feel the warmth of the yellow light

and I chase it,

but remain in the cold shadows.

Is it only when I empty myself

of the words unsaid, unwritten;

the deeds undone that

then I will enter the realm between?

Tepidity would be better

than remaining

in the dark.

Wheat Fields Under Cloudy Skies

painting by Vincent van Gogh

Sky with its blue scales
does not daunt
pastoral fields- great pools
of emeralds, celadon-
the flowers at their fringes-
white stars, blood spots-
arcing under the wind.

The land is made of curves.
Clouds wheel in and out
of their own whiteness.
The wind is blurring
the world’s colors.
They are all within one another.

In this whiteness there is desolation.

Ferocity abounds while ice plummets

to where a birdwatcher would make his or her observation.

But now the snow plunges into summits,

hiding landscape from humans at their windows.

All one can see are tiny white comets,

and in this instant, that is all one can know.
