The Trees seem to beckon

as the Sun sinks low,

but the Heat keeps me apart

from the World I’d like to know.

Clouds, obscure! Sun, blink!-

for a short Moment-

so I may venture,

and- no more- lament.

Thunder sings in

its tremulous language. Rain pours

down like oh-so-many tears.

If only

it would crystallize

like I wish my thoughts would.

Observation is

more of a ceaseless,

thankless occupation

whose rewards are never seen

by the observer- the one who records.

Blue-gray clouds never scrutinize.

Not the way

the observer does.

Were the Stars my Eyes,

I could truly see-

not just worldly Beauty-

but- vast Eternity.

Life stretches toward both horizons

The dog excitedly barks at children across the street

Wind stirs curtains, leaves

Spruce branches sway like green tentacles

Birds peel their old plumage and blow their flutes

The robin inflates its heart

Clouds coalesce and disperse like cottonwood seeds

Sky opens and closes its perforated maw

Hours are marked by color and the sun’s position

Rain falls

Horns blare

Sprouts greenly fork out of soil

Wind ebbs and flows

Flowers brighten

Each horizon darkens to be lit again

There goes the white candle.

Its aura blooms yellow and orange,

the sky changes, like a lover

recently scorned, tears and blood and

whispers and promises and the heat swept up

into the darkening inferno.

Here’s to you, the End-Of-Day,

the end of my clarity, the end of my certainty.

Without you we are all thrust under night’s tongue.

We all grasp for moonlight. We remain

weary of shadows.

Here’s to you, Reminder-

we must all fade, eventually.

An assemblage of clouds observes.

Listen. There’s applause

just for you!

A blessing from silver skies

says, “you’re appreciated.”

Let the many small hands

strike the walls and window-glass.

It’s all for you!

The clouds praise with rain,

their way of saying,

“you’re wonderful.”

It’s both difficult and easy to

imagine the Sky as something endless.

It is more difficult to imagine

everything under the Sky,

though both sky and the realm below it

have always been,

for every thing living and imagining,

between the two.
